NOTE: Ensure that the glasss fits squarely into the recess and that the body flange is completely (file if necessary)  equidistant all the way around, so that the seal is able to be inserted and fit in so it is flat / relaxed, not rippled or twisted. If not the chrome finisher will not fit properly into the rubber correctly if it is twisted.This glass is now made from laminate (not hardened) glass, so be advised not to strike it with the palm as you would hardened glass or it will break.

ADDITIONAL ADVICE PROVIDED BY  JAMES SIDWELL, LIFELONG XK PANEL SPECIALIST:

There is a little known issue with rebuilt XK Fixed Head Coupes, where the rear end or Tonneau Panel has been removed or replaced. The roof panel is assembled as a sprung panel and so moves when the welds are removed. When fitting a new panel there are  no witness marks to show this, so a screen has to be used as a template to move the panel into the correct position. This then sets the pre-load back into the panel, allowing it to correctly form around the glass. The panel needs to be in tension as it was originally when assembled .

Failure to do this may result in the roof panel having to be reset later on when you are trying to fit the window (and chrome) after paint has been applied. This is often the time when offering up the (side or rear) window reveals this problem. The window may possibly be bodged into place with sealant, but the chrome finisher will never fit correctly into it as Jaguar intended.
