The slot is to accept the later auto adjuster spec. brake shoes (3191). Fits 2HA / 4HA type Salisbury Axles for the standard AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT brake systems, equipped with the star wheel adjuster mechanism (SEE : 3666).
