5201 x 1. This is our own superb, steel pressing of an XK Jaguar weld-on sidelight pod, a favorite product of the bodyshop trade, as you can see the high quality of this pressing. The front insert is fitted into the pressed body section so as not to obstruct the fitting of the sidelight unit later on (see last picture and note below). As shown, the outer flange is an essential aid to correctly "set" the pod onto the wing panel. Then it can be aligned to the other pod on the other wing with a straight edge (or a laser level ) to ensure they are not uneven (a common mistake seen with wing pods!)  
The pod can then be welded permanently into place when correct and knowing its strong shape will not allow the upright sides to distort out of shape as you weld it. A warped panel is very difficult and expensive to disguise when painted.
Correct proceedure is to lead-load over the weld flange to give a smooth, flowing all metal finish at this highly visual area. TIP :  Avoid loading up the face with lead or filler or thick paint or the sidelight will not fit deeply enough to engage with the screw hole in the pod.
NOTE: A wide repair area is also good for hiding patch repairs that are always required under this pod, as water always bleeds past the screw / indicator pip and lens seal to pool under the pod where you just cannot see it!!
I have seen reproduction repair pods without this essential edge, and wish good luck to anyone trying to set them up and seam weld them all the way around without distortion and grinding to look good !
Manufactured from our own tooling here in Coventry by our press-shop and note we have left a tollerance around the sidelight lens hole and lug engagement slot as it will also have to have a decent layer of paint to go over it yet! Jaguar C7284. Lucas Model 1185.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ALWAYS TRIAL FIT SIDELIGHT UNITS AND SEALS INTO BARE PANELS, THEN ADJUST HOLES FOR  PAINT THICKNESS TO AVOID LATER PROBLEMS. AFTERMARKET SIDELIGHTS, SEALS AND SCREWS CAN VARY, ESPECIALLY AT THE MOUNTING SCREW FIXINGS.
