XK120 'Period Look' Alternator Conversion Kit.

It is well known that dynamos are inefficient at low speeds, but this is when accessories such as electric fans and other essential systems and upgrades from original (like power-steering ) really require the greatest output from the vehicle's electrical system. Upgrading from a standard dynamo and regulator to a self regulating, efficient, alternator can often be made over-complicated and many units supplied by companies are far too high outputs for the standard XK120 loom.The standard (British Standard) reproduction looms are in fact still only made for a 35 amp system, as original, Jaguar 1950's O.E. spec. This is also the max. rating for the XK120's Lucas BM4 ammeter, which will blow out and fail if more power is passed through it. Our specialist kit provides you with stress free, easy fitting. All required parts, even a 'period XK120 look' cast aluminium pulley/fan and the often forgotten wiring jack plug. Full fitting and wiring instructions are included to keep it simple for you. It's look gives the impression that  William Lyons put this on the car in the 1950's . You don't require instrument shunt resistors or loom by-pass harness loops to avoid looms shorting out or igniting! All of our specialist parts are made in the UK, to our high quality standards and the alternator unit is a factory certified Vector brand (or equivalent) with new build internals into an original Lucas core body and comes with documentation and individual unit test results.

NOTE:  This kit is especially designed for upgrading all variants of the XK120 - OTS -DHC - FHC and so retains the unique 20 mm wide fan belt, to still use the original XK120 water pump and crank pulley system.

This kit is a favourite of the XK trade as many of our kit's specific designed parts were developed with advice and feedback from top XK specialist workshops. All XK120's were originally positive earth, but don't worry as we have included a data sheet that explains how to convert over to the modern standard negative earth system to suit, enabling you to use other modern electronic components. All wiring instructions and polarity change information is also included alongside a pictorial fitting sheet. Changing to an alternator can also help to extend the life of your battery by reducing deep cycling stress (from running flat and mains re-charging) on the fragile 6V battery cells. NOTE : A customer reported back that his use of an LED ignition light bulb created a number of problems with activating his new alternator, so please ensure you use a new, correct traditional filament bulb to avoid this!
