4238 x 1 pair. A superbly made pair of OUR unique XK140 upper steering column ball races. Our specialist manufacture of these top quality items, essential for correct restoration and operation of the steering column. This pair of hand assembled bearings is unique to all models of the XK140, the only XK to use bearings, rather than bushes, in the steering column assembly. Hand assembled by a bearing specialist for us to ensure high precision and quality. The wider flange bearing is for insertion into the top of the steering column tube, the other for into the lower section. These bearings should be no more than a snug press fit into the outer tube, to ensure correct fitting.

NOTE: Avoid machining the inner column down, as the inner shaft face is a push /  interference fit into the bearings on it's raised sections (see diagram) to 'grab' the bearings and work correctly (The Inner bearing is made to 29.4mm diameter grab). If your inner column race face is undersize, it may have been spinning and wearing away for years, or even have been undersize from new ( 1950's specs were vague) with a bearing modified to suit (with a hammer etc), so be advised you will need to bring it back up to this diameter, or modify the surface to grab the bearing.

NOTE: It is a basic,  low pressure bearing and was replaced by a greased felt strip in the heavier XK150. SEE : 4240
